Plagiarism

Self Plagiarism - Most common kind where authors reuse the work they previously published to increase their publication count.

Paraphrasing - Lot of plagiarism is not verbatim as it gets caught by software. People use paraphrasing to avoid getting caught. Tortured phrases are a sign of paraphrasing

Paper Mills

There has been a deluge of papers generated through paper mills. You might have seen some advertisements of getting an authorship if you pay some money. It has become a big lucrative business.

One can catch it by showing an advertisement for a paper that appeared before a paper.

Fake Data

Given that most papers dont share either their data or their code, it is quite easy to simply generate fake data and results.

It is difficult to detect these, although one can use image forensics to catch cases of image manipulation. Data too good to be true can also be flagged.

How does it work?

Absolutely anyone from India. However, you need to be able to understand what is research misconduct to be able to catch it.

You can join our discord group to report any case. Please ensure to change your name to ensure anonymity. Discord invite : https://discord.gg/BzJGqS9ANU (Click on the link)

Firstly, it is verified if the reported case is genuine. Once verified, you receive your amazon gift card worth 200 Rupees. We also report it on pubpeer and send a mail to the journal to retract the article.

This is part of a project funded by Open Research Funders Group. The project has been awarded to Dr. Moumita Koley who works at DST-CPR, IISc and Dr. Achal Agrawal, founder of India Research Watchdog.

It is an experiment to see if providing an incentive can help catch research misconduct. If successful, this can be deployed on a larger scale to help weed out research misconduct.

The articles reported have to be from Scopus or SCI indexed journals. They should also not have been previously reported. There is no restriction on the nationality of the authors of the articles.
